Virtual School Head and Private Tutoring Pilots

Gateshead has been successful in its bid for funding to pilot two exciting new initiatives to improve educational outcomes for children in care.

Funded by DCSF, children in care will have their very own "virtual" headteacher, who will take the lead in the continued development of effective educational provision for looked after children and in the removal of barriers to their achievement.

To support this work, HSBC will provide additional funding for private tutors to work on a one to one basis with young people outside of school hours.

The schemes will run for two years and the results will be disseminated to other local authorities nationally to enable them to develop their own approaches.
